Questions & Answers about 5 or 6 Gallon Mylar Foil Bag 20" X 30" Sealable End | 5 Pack
- Question: Can you put hot water in these for backpacking trips....re-hydrating foods? are they FDA approved? By Mike F.
- Answer: Hot, but not "boiling". FDA does not regulate specific food packaging (or for that matter, storage, or preparation) products, just the materials (in general) they're are
- Question: Can these be used with a FoodSaver system? Tim B.
- Answer: No they can't be used with a Food Saver because they food saver doesn't get hot enough for this type of plastic. Mylar bags can be sealed with a clothes iron. That's what I use.
- Question: Once a Mylar bag is heat sealed, can it be pulled open or is using scissors the only way to open it? John S.
- Answer: Scissors only. I've tried; they are tough. My opinion - it is better to get the Ziploc ones
- Question: Are the o2 absorbers needed or would creating a good vacuum, or using an inert gas work just as good? Mary F.
- Answer: Vacuum sealing or using a Nitrogen flush technique should be effective and just fine. O2 Absorbers are just a practical way to make your items stay fresh if you do not have access to what is often very expensive machinery. Any standard method for preservation should work just fine if done correctly.
